In a recent Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting held in the US, Dr. S. Jaishankar, India’s External Affairs Minister, advocated for a unified global approach to counter terrorism, stressing the need for zero tolerance. He pointed out that victims of terrorism and those who commit terrorist acts should never be considered equivalent. The gathering at the US Department of State involved discussions with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Japan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Takeshi Iwaya, and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong. Jaishankar affirmed India’s right to defend its people against terrorism, expecting understanding from Quad partners. He also emphasized the collective dedication to a free and open Indo-Pacific, supporting a rules-based international framework that allows regional countries to make their own choices regarding development and security. India is set to host the next Quad Summit and aims to bring forward proposals for a productive meeting, anticipating discussions and agreement with its allies.
