The meeting, held ahead of President Stubb’s discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focused on strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.
Minister Jaishankar expressed optimism about the outcomes of the high-level interactions. ‘Delighted to meet President Alexander Stubb of Finland this morning in Delhi. Confident that his meeting with PM @narendramodi will further strengthen India-Finland ties,’ he posted on X, adding anticipation for Stubb’s speech at the Raisina Dialogue.
President Stubb arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a three-day official visit at the invitation of PM Modi. Accompanied by a high-level delegation including ministers, senior officials, and prominent business leaders, Stubb will stay in India until March 7. His itinerary is packed with key engagements designed to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors.
A highlight of the visit is Stubb’s role as Chief Guest at the 11th edition of the Raisina Dialogue, taking place from March 5 to 7 in New Delhi. He is expected to deliver a keynote address, underscoring Finland’s commitment to global dialogues on pressing issues.
This marks President Stubb’s first visit to India since assuming office. Discussions between PM Modi and President Stubb are anticipated to cover expansive areas of mutual interest, from trade and technology to regional and global challenges. Collaboration in multilateral forums is also on the agenda.
PM Modi will host a special lunch in honor of the Finnish leader. President Stubb’s schedule includes meetings with President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. Following Delhi, he heads to Mumbai to engage with Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
In Mumbai, Stubb will interact with Indian business leaders at a dedicated India-Finland business event and address students at Mumbai University. The visit underscores the robust, friendly relations between India and Finland, rooted in shared democratic values. As a key partner in the European Union and Nordic region, Finland holds strategic importance for India’s outreach.
