Rome’s leadership is sending strong signals of deepening friendship with India. On the occasion of India’s 75th Republic Day, Italian President Sergio Mattarella extended warm greetings to President Droupadi Murmu, emphasizing the rapid expansion of bilateral relations between the two nations.
In a heartfelt message, Mattarella highlighted shared democratic values and rule of law as the bedrock of India-Italy partnership. He pointed to converging interests in upholding a rules-based international order, ensuring security in the Indo-Mediterranean region, and tackling global challenges collaboratively.
“On this Republic Day, I extend my heartfelt best wishes to you for the prosperous future of the Republic of India. Relations between India and Italy are advancing rapidly and will strengthen further in mutual interest,” Mattarella wrote.
The President underscored the momentum from the Joint Strategic Action Plan, which is injecting fresh energy into economic collaborations, scientific partnerships, and people-to-people exchanges. New opportunities are emerging constantly through joint projects and dialogues between civil societies.
Mattarella expressed optimism that coordination between India and Italy would intensify across all bilateral agendas and within the India-EU framework. High-level visits and institutional engagements are accelerating progress in every sector.
He envisioned significant gains for India-EU ties through upcoming economic and trade agreements. Delhi and Rome, united by core principles, are poised to advance peace, stability, and multilateral solutions to pressing world issues.
Wrapping up his message with friendship and congratulations to all Indians, Mattarella’s words reflect a commitment to elevated strategic partnership. This follows Italian PM Giorgia Meloni’s 2023 visit, which upgraded ties to strategic levels, and recent meetings like Italian Deputy PM Antonio Tajani’s Delhi trip last month, where PM Narendra Modi described relations as steadily strengthening.
The 2025-2029 Joint Action Plan sets an ambitious roadmap, promising long-term collaboration across diverse fields.
