In a tragic turn of events, Roei Shalev, a survivor of the Supernova music festival attack, has died by suicide approximately two years after his girlfriend, Mapal Adam, was killed during the same Hamas onslaught. Shalev, aged 25, was found deceased in a vehicle engulfed in flames near Netanya. Security footage confirmed he had filled a fuel canister prior to the incident, suggesting a deliberate act.

Shalev’s last public message, shared on Instagram, revealed his profound despair and inability to overcome the pain of losing Mapal. He described a burning sensation from within, an uncontrollable suffering that ultimately led to his final decision. His words conveyed a deep sense of hopelessness that had festered since the attack.

The loss for Shalev was immense, but the impact of the October 7th attacks rippled through his family. Mapal Adam’s final communications described the terror of the “massacre” and her severe injuries. The tragedy was compounded when Shalev’s mother, unable to bear the grief of her son’s loss and the broader trauma, also died by suicide shortly after the attacks.

The October 7th Hamas-led attacks resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths and the capture of 251 people. The ongoing military actions and hostage situation continue to be central to the conflict, with significant implications for regional stability and international relations.
