The shadow of potential conflict looms over Iraq following a recent speech by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the United Nations. Netanyahu, during his address on September 26, singled out Iraq as a nation where resistance groups would be confronted with Israeli actions. The speech, which was largely unattended by other UN members except for Israeli representatives, included a map identifying nations with active resistance groups, including Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Iraq. This has led to fears of further destabilization in the region, especially considering Iraq’s history of conflict and the presence of various militant groups, some of which are reportedly affiliated with Iran’s ‘Axis of Resistance’. Iraqi officials have reacted strongly to Netanyahu’s threats, with Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein denouncing them as unacceptable and warning that any attack on Iraq would be seen as an attack against the entire country. The situation remains tense, with the potential for a broader conflict.
