Tehran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) naval forces say they have aimed at at least seven oil tankers that violated navigation rules in the Hormuz Strait during the past five days. According to semi‑official reports, the IRGC navy has been averaging more than one tanker per day as a target. The incidents occurred while the United States repeatedly claimed that the strait remains open and under American control.
The attacks were reported by an independent military observer, who noted two explosions on Friday – one as a vessel entered the strait and another as a different ship exited. Earlier in the week, two Kuwaiti tankers, Al Funtas and Kajima, and three United Arab Emirates vessels – Sindbad, Mercian Prosperity and Al Ruwais – were also said to have come under fire.
These developments underscore the growing friction between Iran and the United States over the strategic waterway that carries a significant share of the world’s oil shipments.
