Tehran has ignited fresh tensions with a bold claim from its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), asserting that it downed a US F-15E Strike Eagle near the country’s southwestern border. According to Tasnim News Agency, citing IRGC sources, the two-seater fighter was ‘targeted and brought down.’ No specific timeline for the alleged incident was provided, leaving room for speculation amid ongoing regional volatility.

The US Central Command swiftly rebutted the assertion in a terse post on X, labeling reports of an F-15E crashing in Iran as ‘baseless rumors’ and a ‘false claim.’ This denial underscores the persistent fog of war in the Middle East, where propaganda battles often precede or accompany kinetic actions.

Just a day earlier, Israel celebrated a milestone of its own. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that an F-35I Adir stealth jet from its air force had shot down an Iranian manned Yak-130 fighter over Iranian airspace. In an exuberant X post, the IDF hailed it as the ‘first time an F-35 Adir fighter jet has downed a manned fighter aircraft,’ marking a historic achievement for the stealth platform.

This aerial drama unfolds against a backdrop of escalating hostilities between Iran and Israel. Over recent weeks, both nations have traded missile strikes and targeted attacks on military installations and air defenses. The conflict entered its sixth day with grim casualty figures emerging from Iran. Tasnim, quoting the Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs, reported 1,230 deaths from US-Israel strikes, alongside widespread damage to infrastructure and assets.

Iran’s diplomatic front is equally aggressive. Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei warned European nations in an interview with Spanish broadcaster TVE, stating that EU countries remaining silent on the US-Israel attacks would ‘pay the price sooner or later.’ As proxy forces mobilize and alliances strain, the region braces for potential wider involvement, with superpowers watching closely.
