New Delhi: Mariano Agustin Cosino, Argentina’s ambassador to the United States, has a clear message for India’s economic future. In an exclusive interview, he pinpointed the nation’s massive population as its greatest asset.
‘India’s economy’s biggest strength is the sheer number of people,’ Cosino emphasized. ‘You’re the world’s most populous country, but more than that, there’s immense talent and creativity potential in your people. Once the government removes restrictions, regulations, and barriers, Indians can achieve extraordinary things. That’s why you’ve surged ahead in the last 10 to 15 years. The power lies within you.’
Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, the envoy highlighted India’s consistent growth. ‘The country has been expanding at 6-8% annually for the past decade – that’s a resounding success,’ he said. Cosino recalled Modi’s visit to Argentina, where discussions with President Javier Milei focused on deregulation. ‘PM Modi stressed easing regulations, allowing people to thrive with minimal government interference.’
On attracting more foreign investment, Cosino was diplomatic. ‘I’m not here to dictate India’s domestic policies,’ he noted. ‘But opening up the economy, reducing regulations, and allowing more imports benefits consumers and boosts domestic consumption.’
Looking ahead, the ambassador sees huge potential in India-Argentina ties. ‘Argentina’s economy complements India’s perfectly. We can contribute more to your food and energy security,’ he added. ‘This strategic partnership, nurtured over recent years, holds immense promise for mutual growth.’
India’s journey from regulatory shackles to economic powerhouse serves as a global model. As bilateral relations strengthen, both nations stand to gain from shared prosperity.
