India has officially elevated its diplomatic representation in Afghanistan by upgrading the Technical Mission in Kabul to the Embassy of India. This change, effective immediately, marks a renewed phase of engagement and strengthens the bilateral relationship between India and Afghanistan.

The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted this decision as a powerful signal of India’s commitment to deepening its cooperation across all spheres of mutual concern. The move directly follows the recent visit of the Afghan Foreign Minister to India, during which the upgrade was a key point of discussion and agreement.

The restored Embassy will serve as a central hub for India’s support towards Afghanistan’s development, humanitarian aid efforts, and capacity enhancement programs. These initiatives are carefully aligned with the aspirations and priorities of the Afghan populace.

Discussions between the Indian External Affairs Minister and the Afghan Foreign Minister on October 10th covered a wide array of regional developments and shared challenges. The Minister emphasized India’s unwavering support for the Afghan people, acknowledging the deep historical and cultural ties. India’s commitment to Afghanistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence was strongly affirmed, with a focus on how enhanced cooperation contributes to national development and regional stability.
