The Indian government is currently evaluating the implications of the United States’ decision to implement a $100,000 annual fee for H-1B visa applications. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced that all concerned parties, including the Indian industry, are assessing the impact of the measure, anticipating possible humanitarian consequences due to family-related disruptions. The MEA highlighted that both Indian and US industries share a common interest in fostering innovation and creativity. The Indian government has taken note of the proposed restrictions. The role of skilled talent mobility in driving advancements in technology, economic progress, and competitiveness in both the United States and India was acknowledged. Policy makers are therefore assessing recent actions, taking into consideration the mutual benefits and strong relationships between the two countries. The government hopes that US authorities will appropriately address any potential disruptions caused by the measure. US President Donald Trump issued a new presidential proclamation that introduces a major overhaul to the H-1B visa programme, imposing a steep USD 100,000 annual fee on H-1B visa applications, set to take effect on September 21.
