New Delhi is intensifying efforts to safeguard Indian medical students studying in Iran as regional tensions escalate. Dr. Mohammad Momin, President of the All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA), revealed that discussions with officials from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) have yielded critical safety directives for students currently in the conflict-prone areas.

The MEA has instructed students to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary movement outside. This comes amid reports of heightened security risks in parts of Iran. The Indian Embassy in Tehran has already relocated numerous students to safer zones, primarily shifting them from Tehran to the relatively secure city of Qom. Embassy officials are working around the clock to ensure students’ accommodation, food supplies, and other essentials are met, urging everyone to stay put and maintain constant communication.

Dr. Momin highlighted the growing anxiety among students and their families, particularly from states like Jammu & Kashmir and Kerala, where most of the affected students hail from. AIMSA, along with parents, has formally requested the government to prioritize immediate evacuation plans. The association emphasized that exams should not delay safe returns, calling for swift postponements if needed.

Prior embassy advisories had warned citizens to exercise caution and exit via available routes, but some students stayed back for academic commitments. Now, with the situation deteriorating, the push for repatriation is louder than ever. The MEA and embassy continue monitoring developments closely, promising further actions as required. AIMSA advises students to stay calm, follow instructions, and trust the diplomatic channels in place.
