New Delhi: As anti-government demonstrations in Iran turn increasingly violent, the Indian Embassy in Tehran has issued a urgent advisory for all Indian nationals in the country. With tensions boiling over and reports of widespread unrest, the embassy is calling on students, pilgrims, business travelers, and tourists to depart Iran immediately using any available commercial flights or transport options.

The advisory builds on a previous alert from the Indian government dated January 5, 2025, emphasizing the rapidly deteriorating security situation. ‘All Indian citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) are advised to exercise utmost caution, avoid protest areas, stay in touch with the embassy, and monitor local media for updates,’ the statement reads.

Over 20 days of protests have gripped more than 280 locations across Iran, resulting in at least 2,000 deaths and around 20,000 arrests, according to reports. Internet services have been disrupted for over five days, complicating communication and registration efforts.

To aid those affected, the embassy has released emergency helpline numbers: +989128109115, +989128109109, +989128109102, and +989932179359. Email support is available at [email protected]. Indians in Iran are urged to keep passports and travel documents handy and register via https://www.meaers.com/request/home if not already done. Family members in India can assist with registration amid internet blackouts.

This comes as global concerns mount over Iran’s stability, with the international community watching closely. Indian authorities are prioritizing the safety of their citizens abroad, ready to provide consular assistance as needed.
