Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced India’s plans to redefine the BRICS grouping during its chairmanship, emphasizing a focus on ‘Building Resilience and Innovation for Cooperation and Sustainability.’ Speaking at the BRICS Summit in Brazil, Modi stated that India’s leadership will prioritize a people-centric approach, drawing parallels with its G20 presidency. He underscored the importance of addressing the concerns of the Global South. The discussions included reforms in global governance, enhancing the voice of the global south, peace and security, strengthening multilateralism, and development issues. Modi also addressed the urgency of UN Security Council reform and the need for greater support for sustainable development in developing countries. He proposed initiatives in areas like the New Development Bank, scientific research, critical mineral supply chains, and AI governance. The summit concluded with the adoption of the Rio de Janeiro Declaration, reflecting a collective commitment to cooperation and strategic partnerships.
