A significant diplomatic exchange between India and Jordan has underscored a shared commitment to bolstering bilateral cooperation. During her official visit, Secretary (South) Neena Malhotra met with high-ranking Jordanian officials, including Secretary General Daifallah Ali Al-Fayez and Ambassador Mohammed Abu Wendi, on October 13th. This meeting marked a key moment in the 75th year of diplomatic relations between the two nations, fostering discussions on enhancing ties across political, economic, trade, defense, and cultural spheres. Both sides expressed strong satisfaction with their historically friendly relationship and reiterated their commitment to a deeper partnership. Important regional and global issues, including the West Asian situation, were also addressed, with a mutual affirmation of the principles of dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful conflict resolution. Future engagements are planned, including the next round of Foreign Office Consultations to be held in New Delhi. Secretary Malhotra also engaged with representatives of the Indian community and key Jordanian stakeholders, including business leaders and academics, highlighting their vital role in bridging the two countries. Discussions were held regarding a potential Twinship Agreement between Agra and Petra. This visit follows recent Foreign Office Consultations that affirmed the positive trajectory of the India-Jordan partnership, with a focus on strengthening collaboration in political-security, economic, and people-to-people exchanges. Plans are also in motion to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations through various events. The economic partnership is thriving, with bilateral trade reaching USD 2.8 billion in 2023-24, making India a top trading partner for Jordan. The countries aim to further diversify economic cooperation and promote investments, including supporting educational initiatives like the India-Jordan Centre of Excellence in IT.
