New Delhi: In a swift response to escalating tensions between Iran and the United States, the Indian Embassy in Tehran has issued a critical advisory urging all Indian nationals in Iran to leave the country immediately. This move comes as multiple nations, including Poland and Serbia, have similarly warned their citizens against travel to the region.

The advisory highlights the rapidly deteriorating security situation, referencing India’s earlier alert from January 5, 2026. It specifically targets Indian students, pilgrims, business travelers, and tourists currently in Iran, advising them to depart via any available commercial flights or transportation options without delay.

‘All Indian citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) are urged to exercise utmost caution, avoid areas of protests or demonstrations, stay in touch with the Embassy, and monitor local media for updates,’ the embassy stated in its official communication.

The embassy emphasized the importance of keeping travel documents, including passports and IDs, readily accessible. Those needing assistance are directed to contact the emergency helpline numbers: +989128109115, +989128109109, +989128109102, and +989932179359. Emails can also be sent to [email protected].

Unregistered Indian nationals in Iran are instructed to register immediately with the embassy, either directly or through family members in India if internet issues persist.

This advisory echoes similar calls from other countries. Serbia’s Foreign Ministry has explicitly advised its citizens to avoid travel to Iran and for those present to exit ‘as soon as possible,’ citing worsening security. Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned on Thursday that armed confrontations could erupt, making evacuation impossible within hours.

The backdrop to these warnings is the United States’ largest military deployment in the Middle East in 22 years, coupled with President Donald Trump’s threats of military action against Iran’s nuclear program. As global powers brace for potential conflict, India’s proactive measures aim to safeguard its citizens’ safety.
