Toronto emerged as a key hub for global AI discourse on January 21, as the Indian Consulate General hosted the ‘India-Canada AI Dialog 2026’. This high-profile event underscored India’s pivotal role in fostering inclusive, responsible artificial intelligence that serves societal good. Organized in collaboration with Waterloo University, Canada India Tech Council, and Zoho Inc., the dialog positioned bilateral cooperation as a boon for both economies and communities.

Attended by over 600 senior leaders from across Canada—including top executives, policymakers, researchers, and innovation experts—the event served as a crucial pre-summit platform. It paved the way for the upcoming ‘India AI Impact Summit 2026’ scheduled for February 19-20 in New Delhi, facilitating idea exchange and accelerating joint initiatives.

India’s High Commissioner Dinesh K. Patnaik emphasized the shared vision of ethical tech development. ‘This dialog reflects our joint commitment to shaping AI’s future responsibly,’ he stated. ‘As we approach the India AI Impact Summit, partnerships like with Canada highlight how trusted allies can drive inclusive, ethical innovations relevant worldwide.’

Canada’s Minister of AI and Digital Innovation, Ivan Solomon, stressed AI’s present-day urgency. ‘India and Canada share the responsibility to ensure this technology serves people, strengthens societies, and delivers real economic value,’ he remarked.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford praised the longstanding India-Canada ties in trade, investment, and emerging tech, commending the Indian Consulate’s leadership. Acting Consul General Kapidhwaj Pratap Singh highlighted Toronto’s status as a dynamic AI ecosystem, calling the event a strong step in linking the innovation worlds of both nations.

The dialog not only reinforced bilateral commitments but also spotlighted Toronto’s rise as a global AI powerhouse, setting the stage for transformative collaborations ahead.
