A dispute has emerged between India and Nepal concerning the Lipulekh Pass, with India rejecting Nepal’s claims to the territory and advocating for dialogue to settle the outstanding boundary issues. India’s Ministry of External Affairs addressed Nepal’s concerns regarding the resumption of border trade between India and China through Lipulekh, a trade route that has been active for decades. India’s position is that Nepal’s claims are not substantiated by historical facts, and any actions to unilaterally expand territorial claims are not acceptable. Nepal has stated that the area, including Lipulekh, is an integral part of Nepal, as per the Nepalese constitution and the Sugauli Treaty of 1816.
