At the United Nations, India launched a scathing attack on Pakistan, condemning its duplicity on human rights issues and its long-term backing of terrorist activities. Indian officials rejected Pakistan’s statements in both the UN Human Rights Council and the UN General Assembly, characterizing them as misleading and propagandistic. Indian diplomat Mohammad Hussain, speaking at the 34th meeting of the 60th session of the UNHRC in Geneva, remarked, “India finds it deeply ironic that Pakistan would lecture others on human rights. Instead of spreading disinformation, Pakistan should deal with the oppression of minorities on its soil.” Hussain’s comments came after an airstrike by Islamabad in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province resulted in the deaths of at least 23 civilians. New Delhi reiterated its persistent concerns over Islamabad’s treatment of minorities and its failure to resolve internal human rights challenges, concerns that have been shared by other international figures.
