Independence Day: President’s address to the nation, Draupadi Murmu said – India will soon become the third largest economy

New Delhi. On the eve of 78th Independence Day, President Draupadi Murmu addressed the nation on August 14. She said, all the countrymen participating in the festival of independence are our family. India will soon become the third largest economy.

President Murmu said, ‘Seeing the tricolour fluttering on the occasion of Independence Day – whether it is at the Red Fort, in state capitals or all around us – fills our hearts with enthusiasm.’

President Draupadi Murmu further said, ‘Today, on 14 August, our country is celebrating Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. It is a day to remember the horrors of Partition. When our great nation was partitioned, millions of people were forced to migrate. Millions of people lost their lives. A day before celebrating Independence Day, we remember that unprecedented human tragedy and stand in solidarity with the families who were torn apart.’

The President said, ‘This festival of independence reminds us of those days when many people sacrificed for the country. Our freedom fighters gave us new expressions. There were many others like Sardar Patel, Bose, Bhagat Singh, Baba Saheb Ambedkar, whose sacrifices have been appreciated.’

President Draupadi Murmu said, ‘By achieving an average annual growth rate of 8 percent between 2021 and 2024, India is among the fastest growing major economies. This has not only put more money in the hands of the countrymen, but has also reduced the number of people living below the poverty line substantially.’
