During the 79th Independence Day celebrations in Melbourne, a tense situation developed as a group of Khalistani supporters clashed with the Indian diaspora. The Khalistanis attempted to disrupt the festivities, which prompted the Indian community to respond by singing patriotic songs. The Australia Today reported on X about the disruption outside the Consul General of India’s office, noting that “Khalistani ‘goons’ reportedly created a ruckus, disrupting the premises and raising tensions.” The report added that Indians had gathered to celebrate the day peacefully. Local authorities were present to monitor the situation. The flag hoisting ceremony was led by Consul General Dr. Sushil Kumar, and the event was attended by Hon. Brad Batin, MP, Cr Pradeep Tiwari, Mayor of Marybyrong, and members of the Indian diaspora. The day was marked by patriotic music and a focus on strengthening ties between India and Australia.
