ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has raised the alarm over former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s health, claiming authorities are secretly moving him from jail to a hospital without family consent. The party labels this as a blatant violation of basic human rights and warns it endangers his life.

PTI asserts that Khan’s relatives and lawyers were kept in the dark about the alleged transfer. In a strongly worded statement, the party demanded immediate proper medical care under the supervision of his personal doctors and at least one family member. ‘This secretive maneuver disregards prison rules and legal norms,’ PTI emphasized.

Local reports highlight Khan’s ongoing health struggles, including the potential loss of vision in his right eye. Relatives have accused jail officials of failing to provide adequate care for months. The Express Tribune noted multiple ailments plaguing the ex-premier, fueling fears of deliberate neglect.

PTI rejected any veil of secrecy around Khan’s condition, calling it a repeat of past patterns that risk his well-being. ‘Delaying treatment is inhumane,’ the party stated, insisting on no compromises for their leader’s health.

Protests erupted Friday as opposition allies rallied near parliament, decrying Khan’s deteriorating condition in custody. The Tehreek Tahafuz-e-Aain Pakistan (TTAP) coalition, including PTI, vowed to continue demonstrations until Khan receives treatment at Al-Shifa Hospital.

This follows a Supreme Court order on Thursday directing a medical board to examine Khan’s eyes amid reports of blindness in one. Khan has been imprisoned in Rawalpindi’s high-security Adiala Jail since August 2023, convicted in a corruption case and arrested from his Lahore residence.

As tensions simmer, PTI’s call for transparency underscores broader concerns over political prisoners’ rights in Pakistan, with supporters bracing for prolonged agitation.
