A significant tightening of U.S. visa policies has led to the revocation of approximately 80,000 non-immigrant visas since President Trump’s inauguration. The cancellations are a direct response to a variety of violations, encompassing criminal acts like driving under the influence, assault, and theft, alongside breaches of immigration rules and foreign policy considerations. Nearly half of the total revocations were attributed to DUI, assault, and theft offenses. New visa applicants face more rigorous vetting, including expanded social media scrutiny and deeper background checks. The State Department’s actions also extended to revoking over 6,000 student visas in August, citing overstays and violations of visa conditions, with some incidents allegedly connected to support for terrorism. This policy underscores the administration’s dedication to enforcing immigration laws and safeguarding national interests.
