As the world gears up for the Chinese Lunar New Year, known as the Spring Festival, a viral online trend of ‘becoming Chinese’ has captured global attention. This traditional celebration, rooted in the lunar calendar, is emerging as a key gateway for internet users worldwide to explore Chinese culture.

China Global Television Network (CGTN), under the China Media Group, launched a comprehensive online poll targeting global netizens. The results are striking: 95.1% of respondents expressed keen interest in the Spring Festival. An overwhelming 95% believe its inclusion in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list signals the rapid global embrace and appreciation of Chinese traditions.

A resounding 91.7% agreed that the festival’s themes of unity, fraternity, peace, harmony, and mutual respect align seamlessly with core human civilization values. Moreover, 86.7% voiced eagerness to celebrate the festival in China itself, while 92.1% praised the fusion of China’s deep-rooted ancient culture with modern elements, creating a seamless and captivating experience.

The survey highlighted a shift: 80.8% see the adoption of Chinese lifestyles by global users as moving from one-way cultural export to mutual exchange and resonance. Some 78.7% view the Spring Festival as a vital window into Chinese culture and daily life, and 76.3% interpret the ‘becoming Chinese’ trend as reflecting China’s openness across markets, policies, lifestyles, and cultural concepts.

Tourism data underscores this enthusiasm. Bookings for flights to China during Spring Festival holidays by foreign visitors have surged manifold compared to last year. Additionally, 88.2% of participants noted that the global influence of Chinese culture is injecting fresh energy into consumer markets.

Conducted across CGTN’s English, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Russian platforms, the poll gathered responses from 5,154 foreign internet users within just 24 hours. This snapshot reveals a world increasingly drawn to the vibrancy of Chinese traditions, promising deeper cultural connections ahead.
