Prime Minister Narendra Modi was presented with the Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana, the nation’s highest civilian honor, by President John Dramani Mahama. The award signifies recognition of Modi’s ‘distinguished’ statesmanship and influential global leadership. In his acceptance speech, Modi dedicated the honor to the Indian people and emphasized the longstanding relationship between Ghana and India. Discussions between the leaders focused on enhancing collaboration in critical sectors, including agriculture, education, defence, healthcare and digital payments. India will establish a Skill Development Centre to support vocational education, aligning with Ghana’s ‘Feed Ghana’ program. India also plans to double trade with Ghana in the next five years and offer its digital payments system, Bharat UPI. President Mahama welcomed the visit, recognizing the deep historical bonds between the two nations, dating back to the leadership of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Jawaharlal Nehru. This visit, a first in over three decades by an Indian Prime Minister, is anticipated to invigorate the India-Ghana partnership.
