Madrid’s emergency services reported that an explosion in a building injured 25 people on Saturday, with two in serious condition. Authorities are investigating the cause, with firefighters suspecting a gas leak.
Firefighters, led by Javier Romero, extracted four people from the debris after the explosion, which occurred at approximately 3 p.m. on the ground floor of a three-story building. A cafe, shop, and other properties were significantly damaged.
The explosion occurred at a bar in the Vallecas neighborhood. Emergency services rapidly responded, using sniffer dogs and drones to aid the rescue. The bar was popular with locals, and the blast caused panic in the surrounding area.
Medical teams treated the 25 injured. Three suffered severe injuries, potentially life-threatening, while two others are in potentially serious condition. All were taken to local hospitals. Rescue operations are ongoing, but authorities have stated the situation is under control.
The exact cause is still unknown. Gas leak or technical fault are suspected. Police and investigation teams are on-site. Authorities advised residents to stay alert. The explosion destroyed the bar, resulting in 25 injuries.
