In a shocking act of violence, a female teacher was shot dead outside Allahabad Girls High School in Sibi district of Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province on Thursday. Local police confirmed the incident, attributing it to unidentified assailants on a motorcycle who fired at her from close range.
Eyewitnesses described the horrifying scene: the attackers sped up to the school gate, unleashed a barrage of bullets targeting the educator, and fled before anyone could react. She sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival. The brazen attack has sent ripples of fear through the local community, already on edge amid rising insurgent activities.
The victim hailed from a prominent tribal family in Sibi. She was married to Malik Fahim Bangulzai and was a close relative of influential tribal leader Sardar Noor Ahmad Bangulzai. Her tragic death underscores the perilous security situation in Balochistan, where targeted killings have become alarmingly common.
This killing comes against a backdrop of escalating enforced disappearances targeting Baloch women across the province. Reports indicate a surge in such cases, with security forces allegedly abducting women without trace. Just recently, Fatima, wife of Noroz Islam from Panjgur, was reportedly picked up from her home in Akram Colony and taken to an undisclosed location. No official acknowledgment of her arrest has been made, leaving her family in anguish.
Fatima’s husband has himself been subjected to enforced disappearance three times in the past, highlighting a pattern of harassment against activists and their families. Human rights groups have documented at least 12 such abductions of women in 2025 alone, including minors and pregnant women.
The Baloch Yakjehti Committee spotlighted the case of eight-month pregnant Hani Baloch from Kech district, who vanished along with three family members between December 19 and 23. Their report, titled ‘Two Lives at Risk: Enforced Disappearance of a Pregnant Woman in Balochistan,’ warns of a dangerous shift where women are increasingly becoming targets in what was once predominantly a male-focused crackdown.
As tensions simmer in Balochistan, this teacher’s murder serves as a grim reminder of the human cost of the province’s unresolved conflicts. Authorities have launched an investigation, but residents demand swift justice and an end to the cycle of violence.
