Following what is perceived as a pattern of Israeli targeting, Iran has reportedly released a hit list identifying senior Israeli officials as potential targets for assassination. This announcement, which has increased tensions, was shared on X by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz. The list targets high-ranking figures, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Katz himself. Also on the list are former Israeli Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai, IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, and Israeli Air Force Commander Major General Tomer Bar. Katz’s post included a warning to Iran’s leader, referencing the ‘Red Wedding’ from the ‘Game of Thrones’ series, a nod to Israel’s past covert operations against Iranian officials. This move by Iran seems to be in retaliation for Israel’s ‘Rising Lion’ operation, which targeted and significantly damaged Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile facilities. The issuance of the kill list signifies a dangerous escalation of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.
