In a vibrant celebration of cultural unity, China Media Group (CMG) hosted the Brazil session of its ‘Spring Festival Gala Prelude’ in Brasilia on Wednesday. The event drew over 100 dignitaries from government, culture, and media sectors in China and Brazil.
CMG Director Shen Haixiong delivered a compelling video address, emphasizing the timeless essence of the Spring Festival. ‘This ancient festival, rooted in thousands of years of Chinese civilization, serves as a spiritual bond connecting Chinese communities worldwide,’ he stated. Today, nearly 20 countries recognize it as a public holiday, celebrated by one-fifth of the global population in diverse ways.
As the world’s largest annual cultural spectacle by viewership, CMG’s Spring Festival Gala has run for 43 consecutive years. It has evolved into a ‘spiritual feast on New Year’s Eve,’ offering global audiences a window into China’s rich traditions and modern progress.
With China’s 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) on the horizon, Shen called for embracing a hopeful spring filled with warmth and optimism. Chinese Ambassador to Brazil Zhu Qingqiao highlighted how the event brings Spring Festival traditions to Brazilian shores. ‘As the most significant Chinese festival gaining global recognition, it underscores the emotional closeness between our nations despite geographical distances,’ he noted.
Brazil’s Health Minister Alexandre Padilha praised the steady growth in bilateral ties, particularly in health knowledge exchange, public policy, and medical innovation. ‘These collaborations lay a strong foundation for deeper cultural and scientific exchanges,’ he affirmed.
The gathering marks a prelude to the inaugural ‘China-Brazil Cultural Year,’ promising enhanced people-to-people connections. Amid strengthening strategic guidance from both leaders, China-Brazil relations are at their peak, fostering mutual understanding through shared festivities.
