The Chinese envoy, speaking in India’s capital, stated that China welcomes Indian goods into its market. He criticized the current global trade environment, particularly the use of tariffs and trade wars, which he described as disruptive. The envoy condemned the prevalence of power politics, which has negatively affected international order. He emphasized the importance of cooperation between China and India, particularly in assisting developing nations to overcome difficulties and secure fairness. The envoy framed trade as a process for mutual gain, not self-interest. He directly addressed the U.S.’s imposition of tariffs on Indian goods, including a 50% tariff, and stated China’s opposition, warning against silence or compromise. The U.S. had previously announced 25% tariffs, escalating the trade conflict.

He confirmed China’s support for the WTO-centered multilateral trading system. The Chinese envoy also addressed ongoing discussions on direct flights between India and China. He emphasized China’s desire to enhance exchanges and trade, and also touched on the negotiations between India and the U.S. for a trade agreement. The article also mentioned the specifics of U.S. tariffs. The Chinese Foreign Minister and India’s NSA discussed the border issue, agreeing to establish two groups to address it.

The envoy also noted the upcoming visit of the Indian Prime Minister to China for the SCO Summit and the importance of the visit for bilateral relations. He mentioned the ten points of consensus reached between the Special Representatives of China and India on the boundary question. They have agreed to set up an Expert Group for boundary delimitation and a Working Group for border management. Additionally, they agreed to establish General-Level Mechanisms and reopen border trading markets.
