Beijing’s science and technology landscape is evolving rapidly. According to the latest national science outreach data released by China’s Ministry of Science and Technology for 2024, the country has significantly expanded its network of science promotion venues and foundational institutions.
In a remarkable development, the number of science and technology museums across China has climbed to 1,890 this year. This marks an increase of 111 museums compared to 2023, reflecting a sustained commitment to public education in STEM fields. Moreover, the exhibition space in these museums has grown by 4.49%, providing more room for immersive learning experiences.
Funding for science outreach efforts has also seen a healthy uptick. National allocations reached 22.22 billion yuan in 2024, up 3.32% from the previous year. This financial boost is enabling more innovative programs and wider accessibility.
The workforce dedicated to science promotion is expanding steadily. Trained personnel are actively engaging communities through specialized activities, ensuring that millions benefit directly from hands-on science education. This growth underscores China’s strategic push to foster a scientifically literate society.
As these institutions multiply and upgrade, they are playing a pivotal role in inspiring the next generation of innovators. With enhanced facilities and resources, China’s science museums are set to become global benchmarks in public engagement.
