Beijing witnessed a major announcement on January 22 as officials from China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs detailed the remarkable achievements of 2025. Despite facing droughts, floods, and relentless rains, the nation secured a bumper grain harvest of 714.9 billion kilograms, marking an increase of 8.4 billion kilograms and setting a new historical record. This success underscores China’s unwavering commitment to food security amid challenging weather patterns.

The State Council Information Office hosted the press conference, where spokespersons highlighted how these accomplishments not only met all annual targets but also fulfilled the goals of the 14th Five-Year Plan. This stable progress has provided a solid foundation for high-quality economic and social development across the country.

Key highlights included abundant supplies in the ‘vegetable basket,’ ensuring plentiful produce for consumers. Beyond production, China consolidated gains from poverty alleviation efforts, preventing large-scale relapse into poverty. Technological support and mechanization advanced significantly, elevating the level of agricultural modernization.

Rural areas saw continuous improvements with the construction of livable, business-friendly, and beautiful villages. Residents’ well-being enhanced steadily, while rural reforms deepened, injecting fresh momentum into development. These strides reflect a holistic approach to balancing production, sustainability, and prosperity in China’s vast countryside.

As China looks ahead, this year’s triumphs signal resilience and innovation in agriculture, positioning the sector as a pillar for national growth in the coming years.
