Beijing is rolling out the red carpet for journalists worldwide as it prepares to host two major national conferences in early March 2026. The fourth session of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) and the fourth session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) will kick off on March 5 and March 4, respectively, in the Chinese capital.

In an official announcement on January 27, the standing committees of both bodies extended a warm invitation to domestic and foreign reporters eager to cover these pivotal events. This move underscores China’s commitment to openness and transparency in its political processes, allowing global media unprecedented access to one of the country’s most significant annual gatherings.

Interviews during the sessions will primarily be conducted face-to-face, supplemented by other flexible methods to accommodate journalists’ needs. The conferences aim to provide comprehensive services to both Chinese and international press, fostering a platform for in-depth reporting on national policies and developments.

Aspiring attendees must submit applications through designated procedures, with the registration deadline set for February 3. To streamline the experience, press centers for both sessions will promptly publish interview schedules and breaking news on their official websites: http://www.npc.gov.cn for the NPC and http://www.cppcc.gov.cn for the CPPCC.

These sessions are crucial junctures where China’s top legislators and political advisors deliberate on key legislative matters, economic strategies, and social policies that will shape the nation’s trajectory for the coming year. By welcoming international media, Beijing signals its intent to engage with the global community on matters of mutual interest, potentially shedding light on China’s post-pandemic recovery plans, technological advancements, and diplomatic postures.

As the world watches closely amid ongoing geopolitical tensions, this openness could pave the way for nuanced reporting that bridges understanding between China and the rest of the globe. Journalists preparing to descend on Beijing have a unique opportunity to witness firsthand the mechanisms of China’s governance in action.
