Beijing, February 26: In a strategic move to bolster its economy and embrace sustainability, seven Chinese government departments, led by the Ministry of Commerce, unveiled a revised ‘Catalog of Encouraged Imported Services’ on February 25. This update introduces two pivotal new categories: ‘Other Professional Services’ and ‘Medical and Health Services,’ signaling China’s commitment to innovation and public health.
The ‘Other Professional Services’ category spotlights green building engineering, low-carbon design, evaluation, certification services, and supply chain management. These additions aim to accelerate China’s transition toward a greener economy amid global pressures for environmental responsibility.
Meanwhile, ‘Medical and Health Services’ now encompasses care for severe illnesses, rehabilitation, and health promotion services. This expansion addresses the growing demand for advanced healthcare as China’s aging population surges.
Several existing items underwent adjustments to better align with current needs. Services like digital technology development, technical testing, analysis, and resource utilization have been refined or removed where import promotion is no longer necessary.
First introduced in 2016 and revised in 2019, this catalog received its latest overhaul in 2024. The move underscores China’s proactive approach to service trade liberalization, fostering international collaboration in high-value sectors.
