Beijing’s tourism sector is booming like never before. Chinese Culture and Tourism Minister Sun Yeli announced at the annual National People’s Congress press conference that inbound travelers to China exceeded 150 million in 2025. This marks a staggering 17% jump from the previous year, fueled by a suite of enticing incentive policies.
The economic impact is massive. Visitors poured over $1.3 trillion into the economy, with more than 30 million foreigners taking advantage of visa-free entry programs. Minister Sun highlighted how these measures have supercharged recovery in the post-pandemic travel landscape.
Simplifying payments for inbound tourists is another priority. Last year alone, foreign visitors spent nearly 80 billion yuan through mobile payment platforms, showcasing China’s digital prowess in tourism.
Shopping habits are evolving too. Gone are the days of just picking up traditional souvenirs. Tourists are now snapping up high-tech gadgets like drones and VR glasses, alongside creative cultural products. They’re riding bullet trains, watching drone shows, savoring hotpot, and even donning traditional Chinese attire for immersive experiences.
This surge underscores China’s strategic push to reclaim its spot as a global tourism powerhouse. With policies aligning innovation, culture, and convenience, the future looks brighter than a Shenzhen skyline at night.
