Beijing’s latest e-commerce summit has unveiled staggering figures that cement China’s dominance in digital shopping. For the 13th consecutive year, the nation boasts the world’s largest online retail market, with total digital consumption soaring past 238 trillion yuan.
Held from January 13 to 14, the National E-Commerce Work Conference highlighted remarkable strides since the launch of the 14th Five-Year Plan in 2021. China’s e-commerce sector has not only fueled high-quality development but also emerged as a key driver of new productive forces and a builder of innovative growth patterns.
A standout trend is the deep fusion of digital and physical industries. Over 1,500 industrial e-commerce collaboration programs have been rolled out, engaging nearly 10,000 enterprises. This push has modernized traditional sectors, fostering seamless synergy between online and offline channels.
Despite global uncertainties, China’s open collaboration is expanding. The number of ‘Silk Road E-Commerce’ partner countries has grown to 36, with pilot zones progressing smoothly. Initiatives like ‘Benefiting the World’ are drawing international players into China’s vast market.
Socially, e-commerce employs over 78 million people. Express delivery volumes have surged by an average 20% annually since 2021, while cloud computing and big data services have expanded rapidly. This ecosystem underscores China’s pivotal role in shaping the future of global retail.
