Beijing is once again at the forefront of technological innovation, unveiling a groundbreaking open-source AI model tailored specifically for agriculture. Nanjing University has introduced Sinang, China’s first vertical large language model designed to transform farming practices across the nation and beyond.

This ambitious project reflects China’s unwavering commitment to integrating artificial intelligence into every sector of its economy. Trained on a massive dataset encompassing animal science, agricultural economics, resource management, horticulture, smart farming, veterinary medicine, plant protection, and crop breeding, Sinang represents a comprehensive knowledge base for modern agriculture.

The model’s development draws from an impressive repository of nearly 9,000 books, over 240,000 academic papers, 20,000 policy documents, and vast internet-sourced information. Researchers at Nanjing University have meticulously curated this data to create a robust foundation for AI applications in farming.

Now fully available on platforms like ModelScope and GitHub, Sinang’s open-source strategy aims to democratize agricultural AI. By removing barriers to innovation, it empowers research institutions, companies, and developers to build upon this foundation, accelerating the adoption of smart agriculture solutions.

This launch comes at a pivotal moment as China prepares for its 15th Five-Year Plan. Government agencies are prioritizing AI development, focusing on fundamental research, open-source ecosystems, and industrial collaborations. Sinang exemplifies how China is positioning itself as a global leader in AI-driven agricultural transformation, promising enhanced productivity, sustainability, and food security for the future.
