In a rapidly shifting global landscape, India has emerged as a pivotal hub for international trade, drawing attention from nations worldwide. Amid these dynamics, China’s stance towards New Delhi appears to be softening significantly. Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong announced on Tuesday that bilateral relations are reaching a fresh phase of improvement.

This optimistic note comes against the backdrop of tensions following the Galwan clash. Last year, a crucial summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping paved the way for renewed direct flights between the two countries after years of suspension. Pilgrimages to Kailash Mansarovar have resumed, and India has reinstated tourist visas for Chinese nationals, facilitating smoother people-to-people exchanges.

Speaking at a Chinese New Year event in New Delhi celebrating the Year of the Dragon, Ambassador Xu highlighted the pivotal August meeting in Tianjin between the two leaders. ‘This encounter marked a reset, propelling our ties towards steady progress,’ he stated.

Economic momentum is undeniable. Trade volume between China and India soared to $155.6 billion, reflecting over 12% year-on-year growth. India’s exports to China rose by 9.7%, signaling vast potential for two Asian giants. ‘Interactions across all levels have intensified, with economic and trade cooperation scaling new heights,’ Xu emphasized.

The envoy drew parallels between China’s vision of a ‘harmonious global community’ and India’s ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ – the world as one family. This philosophical alignment underscores mutual aspirations.

Echoing this sentiment, President Xi Jinping, in a Republic Day message, wished for the ‘dragon and elephant to dance together.’ Xu, who attended India’s 77th Republic Day celebrations, posted on X: ‘Delighted to join the festivities. China and India should be good neighbors, partners in mutual success.’

Earlier, in November, Xu expressed China’s readiness to deepen high-level practical cooperation, aligning with India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative during China’s 15th Five-Year Plan. This period promises strengthened real economy foundations, tech self-reliance, and expanded openness, creating fresh collaboration opportunities.

As both nations navigate global challenges, these developments herald a promising era of stability and prosperity in Sino-Indian relations.
