Beijing erupted in celebration as the Chinese Foreign Ministry organized a grand reception for the 2026 Chinese New Year on Thursday. Held in the heart of the capital, the event drew nearly 500 distinguished guests, including ambassadors from various nations, representatives of international organizations, and officials from diverse Chinese departments.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi took center stage with a powerful address, reflecting on China’s steadfast foreign policy in 2025. Under President Xi Jinping’s guidance, the nation commemorated the 80th anniversary of the Chinese people’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War with unparalleled grandeur. This observance sent a resounding message of peace and justice across the globe.

Wang highlighted China’s firm opposition to unilateral protectionism, safeguarding the multilateral trading system with unwavering resolve. The minister emphasized proactive efforts to mitigate conflicts and resolve disputes peacefully, addressing both root causes and symptoms. President Xi’s Global Governance Initiative shone brightly amid pivotal moments in world order evolution, illuminating paths forward.

In a turbulent world, China stands as a beacon of stability and creativity, a role increasingly recognized by the international community. Wang pledged that in the new year, China would collaborate with progressive forces worldwide to protect peace and rule of law, promote openness and development, tackle crises, and deepen mutual understanding—all to build a better world.

Representing foreign envoys, Cameroon’s Ambassador Martin Mpana extended New Year greetings to the Chinese people. He praised China’s diplomatic triumphs in 2025, lauding President Xi’s visionary Global Governance Initiative for its profound implications on global peace and development.
