Beijing, January 12: China’s badminton squad delivered a stellar performance at the 2026 Malaysia Open Championship, which concluded on January 11, securing two gold medals and three silvers in a display of grit and skill.

The Chinese duo of Lyu Shengshu and Thain Ning claimed the women’s doubles crown, overpowering their South Korean opponents Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee 21-18, 21-12 in a commanding final. In mixed doubles, Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping outlasted teammates Chiang Chenpang and Wei Yaxin 21-19, 21-19 to bag the gold, while the silver went to the Chinese pair as well, highlighting internal rivalry at its finest.

Shi Yuqi’s men’s singles campaign ended in heartbreak. Facing Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the final, Shi saved multiple game points in the first game but fell 21-23. A back injury forced him to retire in the second, settling for silver.

Wang Zhiyi battled valiantly in women’s singles against South Korea’s An Se-young. After losing the first game 15-21, Wang led briefly in the second but succumbed 22-24, earning silver.

This haul underscores China’s depth in badminton, setting a strong tone for the season ahead. With golds in key doubles categories and silvers in singles, the team proved unstoppable despite tough international competition.
