China has revealed a groundbreaking development: a mosquito-sized drone engineered for military applications. The drone was developed by a robotics lab from the National University of Defence Technology (NUDT) in Hunan province. Micro drones open doors to transformative possibilities across industries. The prototype, demonstrated on CCTV’s military channel, showcases a design with flapping wings and legs, designed for covert military activities. An NUDT student presented the tiny drone, emphasizing its suitability for information gathering and special missions. The drone, about 1.3 centimeters long, is controlled using a smartphone. These microdrones can be particularly useful for clandestine military operations, enabling surveillance and reconnaissance with minimal detection risk. They also have the potential to aid in search and rescue missions and environmental monitoring. While there are limitations in terms of payload and flight duration, ongoing advancements in battery technology, sensor capabilities, and artificial intelligence are expected to boost the performance of microdrones.
