Beijing, February 5 – Grand receptions marking the 2026 Chinese New Year, or Spring Festival, unfolded in spectacular fashion across India on Tuesday. The Chinese Embassy in New Delhi and the Chinese Consulate General in Kolkata hosted separate events that drew enthusiastic crowds from diverse sectors.

At the opulent Shangri-La Hotel in New Delhi, Chinese Ambassador Xu Feihong extended warm Lunar New Year greetings to a distinguished gathering of Indian representatives, overseas Chinese communities, business leaders, and students. In his keynote address, the ambassador highlighted China’s robust economic strides, the steady enhancement of China-India ties, and the unprecedented peaks in bilateral trade volumes.

Emphasizing a forward-looking vision, Xu reaffirmed China’s dedication to deepening strategic coordination, practical collaborations, and cultural exchanges with India. He also expressed eagerness to partner closely with India during its BRICS chairmanship, fostering multilateral synergy.

Meanwhile, in Kolkata, Chinese Consul General Xu Wei welcomed over 400 guests to a vibrant reception. He commended the local community’s pivotal role in nurturing China-India friendship and voiced optimism for even more stable and substantive cooperation ahead.

Both celebrations pulsed with cultural vibrancy. Guests savored authentic Chinese delicacies while immersing in mesmerizing performances: dragon dances that roared with energy, martial arts displays showcasing discipline and grace, violin and erhu melodies that tugged at heartstrings, and harmonious renditions of Chinese and Indian songs. This fusion painted a vivid picture of cultural confluence between the two nations.

The festive atmosphere brimmed with goodwill, underscoring a positive momentum in bilateral relations. These events signal growing people-to-people exchanges and a deepening bond of friendship, setting an optimistic tone for future engagements amid evolving global dynamics.
