At the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, leaders announced Indonesia’s full membership in the group. Additionally, Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Malaysia, Thailand, Cuba, Vietnam, Uganda, and Uzbekistan were welcomed as partner countries. The joint declaration highlighted the BRICS’s commitment to addressing global challenges, including climate finance, artificial intelligence governance, and the elimination of socially determined diseases. Prime Minister Modi emphasized the significance of BRICS’s evolution and the necessity of reforming international bodies like the UN Security Council and the World Trade Organization to align with the current technological era. Established in 2006, BRICS has expanded over time, with South Africa joining later, and recent additions of Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the UAE. The expansion reflects BRICS’s ability to adapt and address critical global issues.
