New Delhi buzzed with anticipation as Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva touched down, extending a warm ‘Namaste, India!’ on social media. Fresh from a traditional welcome at his hotel, Lula shared a video expressing gratitude for India’s hospitality and outlining his packed itinerary.
In an X post, he declared, ‘Namaste, India! I’m here on a crucial mission to strengthen ties, deepen partnerships, and discuss AI’s global future.’ He emphasized ongoing collaboration for innovation and opportunities between the two nations.
Foreign State Minister Pabitra Margherita greeted him at Delhi airport. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted Lula’s participation in the India AI Impact Summit and bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This visit, at PM Modi’s invitation, aims to turbocharge the strategic partnership rooted in shared global visions, democratic values, and inclusive growth. Lula stays until February 22, accompanied by a high-powered delegation of ministers and CEOs from hundreds of Brazilian companies.
Ahead of departure, Lula told journalists about exploring new cooperation avenues at the summit. Trade between India and Brazil surpassed $15 billion in 2025, underscoring the economic momentum.
MEA stated the leaders will review all bilateral aspects, with PM Modi hosting lunch. Discussions will cover regional issues, multilateralism, global governance, and Global South priorities.
President Droupadi Murmu will meet Lula, hosting a banquet. Vice President CP Radhakrishnan and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar are also scheduled for meetings. The Brazilian entourage includes 14 ministers set to engage Indian counterparts.
This marks Lula’s sixth visit to India, first as Republic Day chief guest in 2004, most recently for the G20 in 2023. PM Modi visited Brasilia in July 2025— the first such trip in 57 years— and they met again at G20 in Johannesburg in November.
