New Delhi witnessed a significant diplomatic arrival on Wednesday as Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva touched down for a five-day state visit. Greeted warmly at the airport by Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita, Lula’s journey marks a pivotal moment in India-Brazil relations.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted the visit on its official channels, emphasizing the president’s participation in the India AI Impact Summit and bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This tour, invited by PM Modi, is poised to invigorate the strategic partnership between the two nations, rooted in shared global visions, democratic values, and inclusive growth.

Lula, accompanied by a high-profile delegation of business leaders from hundreds of Brazilian companies, will stay in India from February 18 to 22. His agenda kicks off with the second edition of the AI Impact Summit on February 19 and 20, where he aims to explore new opportunities in artificial intelligence and technology collaboration.

Speaking to journalists before departure, Lula noted that trade between India and Brazil surpassed $15 billion in 2025, underscoring the economic momentum. The centerpiece of the visit remains the bilateral meeting with PM Modi, where leaders will review all facets of bilateral ties, including trade, investment, and defense.

Prime Minister Modi will host a luncheon, while President Droupadi Murmu will meet Lula and organize a banquet in his honor. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar are also scheduled for discussions. Conversations will extend to regional and global issues, such as multilateral cooperation, global governance, and priorities for the Global South.

This visit reinforces the multifaceted relationship between India and Brazil, promising accelerated momentum in strategic partnership. As both nations navigate a complex world order, Lula’s presence signals a commitment to mutual prosperity and collaborative leadership on the international stage.
