New Delhi’s political circles are buzzing with reactions to Bangladesh’s landmark parliamentary election results. Congress MP Sukhdev Bhagat extended congratulations to the winners while emphasizing the urgent need for robust protection of minorities under the new BNP-led government.

In an exclusive interview, Bhagat stated, ‘First and foremost, my best wishes to the new leadership. We hope the government remains sensitive to public aspirations and delivers effectively. Above all, ensuring the safety of minorities and addressing related concerns must be prioritized – that’s our true hope.’

BJP leader Dilip Ghosh echoed optimism, predicting a swift return to peace and prosperity. ‘Bangladesh will soon restore tranquility and accelerate its development trajectory,’ he affirmed.

Unofficial tallies indicate a resounding triumph for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) alliance, securing 210 seats in the 13th parliamentary polls. This paves the way for BNP chairperson Tarique Rahman to assume the premiership – a male leader’s return to the top post after nearly 35 years.

Local reports from Jugantor cite party insiders confirming Rahman’s ascension. In Dhaka-17, Rahman clinched victory with 72,699 votes against rival S.M. Khaliduzzaman’s 68,300. He also dominated Bogra-6, amassing 216,284 votes over Jamaat candidate Abidur Rahman Sohel’s 97,626.

Pre-poll confidence from Rahman proved spot-on; he had declared 100% certainty of success. Stepping into leadership after his mother, former PM Khaleda Zia’s passing last December, Rahman – son of ex-President Ziaur Rahman – now stands poised to lead.

As Bangladesh transitions, Indian observers underscore minority welfare amid historical tensions. The election outcome signals a potential shift, with hopes pinned on inclusive governance fostering regional stability.
