New Delhi witnessed a significant diplomatic arrival on Wednesday as Bhutan’s Foreign and External Trade Minister, Lyonpo D.N. Dhungyel, landed in the capital. His visit coincides with the prestigious 11th edition of the Raisina Dialogue, set to unfold from March 5 to 7.

The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, extended a warm welcome on social media platform X, highlighting the deep trust and harmony that underpin India-Bhutan relations. ‘This visit will further strengthen our unique partnership,’ he posted.

The Raisina Dialogue stands as India’s premier platform for discussions on geopolitics and geo-economics. Organized annually since 2016 by the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, it draws global leaders, policymakers, experts, and journalists to deliberate on pressing world issues.

This high-profile visit builds on recent interactions between the two nations. Just last month, on February 18, Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi. The leaders reviewed progress in key areas like energy, connectivity, development cooperation, and people-to-people ties.

They expressed strong commitment to expanding collaboration in artificial intelligence and digital technologies, reaffirming the partnership rooted in trust, goodwill, and mutual respect.

India and Bhutan share a tradition of regular high-level exchanges. In November last year, PM Modi undertook a two-day visit to Thimphu, aimed at deepening bilateral ties and reinforcing India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy.

These engagements underscore the robust framework of cooperation spanning hydropower projects, infrastructure development, and cultural exchanges. As Minister Dhungyel participates in the Raisina Dialogue, expectations are high for fresh insights into regional stability and bilateral growth.

The event promises vibrant discussions on global challenges, with Bhutan’s perspective adding valuable depth to the conversations.
