Dhaka’s streets are growing increasingly perilous for the Hindu minority, as another shocking murder underscores the relentless wave of violence plaguing Bangladesh. In Mymensingh district’s Trishal sub-district, 62-year-old Sushen Chandra Sarkar, owner of MS Bhai-Bhai Enterprises, was savagely killed on Monday night at Bogor Bazar intersection.
Local reports detail a gruesome scene: armed thugs attacked Sarkar with a sharp weapon, looted several lakh taka from his rice business, locked the shop shutter, and fled. Family members discovered him bleeding profusely and rushed him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Sarkar’s son, Sujan, expressed profound grief and bewilderment. ‘We had no enemies. These cowards butchered my father and stole our hard-earned money from a business we’ve run for years. We demand justice,’ he told media outlets.
Trishal Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Mohammad Firoz Hossain, confirmed the incident occurred around 11 PM. ‘The assailants slashed him fatally, shut the shop, and escaped. Police inspected the site and are pursuing legal action,’ he stated.
This killing, just days before national elections, highlights the dire plight of Hindus amid rising attacks since Muhammad Yunus’s interim government took power. India voiced deep concerns on January 9 over the pattern of assaults on minorities, urging stern measures against communal violence.
Human rights groups worldwide have condemned the surge, calling for immediate protection of vulnerable communities. As Bangladesh grapples with political transitions, the safety of its Hindu population hangs in the balance, demanding urgent intervention from authorities.
