The family of Sharif Osman Hadi, a prominent figure in Bangladesh’s political landscape, is demanding accountability for his recent killing in Dhaka. His brother, Sharif Omar Hadi, has directly implicated the Mohammad Yunus-led interim government, accusing them of orchestrating the murder and attempting to undermine the upcoming general elections. Inqilab Moncho, Hadi’s organization, had previously given the government a 24-hour deadline to apprehend the culprits, insisting on justice before the national election and referendum. Omar Hadi asserted that the interim government cannot shirk its duty to protect citizens and must face legal repercussions for his brother’s death. He went on to accuse the ruling administration of manipulating the tragedy to ‘sabotage’ the election, a move he believes will ultimately be unsuccessful. The family believes Hadi’s commitment to holding elections in February and his proactive role in campaigning made him a target. In contrast, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has publicly confirmed that the general elections will proceed on February 12 as planned. The government, through its Law Adviser, has pledged a rapid judicial process, assigning the case to the Speedy Trial Tribunal with a strict 90-day deadline for completion after the investigation report is filed.
