New York. Indian engineering student Mohammad Abdul Arafat, who went missing a few days ago from Ohio, USA, has been found dead in the Cleveland area. The Consulate General of India in New York said, “It is sad to know that Mohammed Abdul Arafat, for whom a search operation was underway, has been found dead in Cleveland, Ohio. Our deepest condolences to the family of Mohammad Arafat. @IndiainNewYork is in touch with local agencies to ensure a thorough investigation into the death of Mohammed Abdul Arafat. “We are providing all possible assistance to the bereaved family to bring his mortal remains to India.”

Who was Mohammed Abdul Arafat?
Mohammad Abdul Arafat Nacharam, a resident of Hyderabad, reached America in May last year to pursue Masters in IT from Cleveland University. Arafat last spoke to his father on March 7, after which his mobile phone was switched off. Arfath’s roommates in the US had informed his father that they had filed a missing complaint with the Cleveland Police.

On March 19, Mohammed Abdul Arafat’s family received a ransom call from an unknown person. The caller told his family that Arafat had been kidnapped by drug dealers and demanded US$1,200 for his “release.” The caller also threatened to sell his kidney to Mohammad Abdul Arafat if he did not pay the ransom.
Last month, the Consulate had said it was working with local law enforcement officials to trace the Indian student. On April 9, the Consulate informed that his body was found in Cleveland, America.
