Preparations are in full swing for the meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska. To ensure the Russian President’s safety, the Kremlin’s security team has designed a specific plan. The meeting is set for August 15th at the Elmendorf-Richardson military base, which offers a high degree of security. The meeting will involve a direct, face-to-face discussion between Trump and Putin, with Trump aiming to understand Putin’s stance on ending the ongoing conflict within a brief period.

Putin will travel to Alaska via the Bering Strait, entering US airspace directly from Russia. To accommodate his arrival, all flights in Anchorage, Alaska, will be restricted on August 15th. Putin’s aircraft will be under strict security protocols, with the Secret Service providing constant surveillance. Putin’s personal security will be handled by Russian security personnel. Pre-meeting preparations are being actively managed by Kremlin officials. The US State Department confirmed that Marco Rubio spoke with Sergey Lavrov, his Russian counterpart, on Tuesday to discuss the preparations for the summit.

The choice of Alaska as the meeting location is strategic. Alaska was formerly part of Russia, sold to the United States by the Russian Tsar. Furthermore, the International Criminal Court has issued a warrant for Putin’s arrest. The United States is not obligated to follow the court’s decisions. This allows Putin to travel directly to Alaska without the risk of crossing through countries that recognize the International Criminal Court’s jurisdiction, which could lead to his arrest. The meeting location in Alaska therefore provides a safe environment for Putin and Trump. The discussion at this meeting will include ceasefire terms and future strategic planning. Ukraine believes Russia is using negotiations to delay further action.
